The Land and Water Conservation Fund – Now More Than Ever

The federal Land and Water Conservation Fund is critical to supporting our public lands. We've been working hard to get permanent funding through Congress and on the Preseident's desk.

Environment Michigan is part of the Environment America network. This lets us weigh in on federal environmental issues in addition to our work on local and state issues. And just like we have the Environment Michigan blog, there’s an Environment America blog. Recently I wrote a post on the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

This is a bipartisan program that gets broad support across the country. People love their public lands and the myriad of benefits those lands provide from wildlife habitat to recreational opportunities. Our public lands are part of what makes Michigan special. You’re never more than 30 mins away from state land, and that doesn’t count federal land like Sleeping Bear Dunes. Our ability to get out into the outdoors is almost unparalleled.

We’ve been working hard to get permanent full funding legislation through Congress and on the President’s desk. Since I wrote that blog the legislation passed the Senate. Now we’re working on getting it through the House.
