BOSTON — The United States now boasts more than two million solar panel installations, according to data released today by Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). While it took decades to reach one million in 2016, the next million took just three years.

Emma Searson, Go Solar Campaign advocate with Environment America, issued the following statement:

“This progress proves that solar is rapidly becoming a go-to energy option, and should give us confidence that abundant, pollution-free solar energy will play a major role in moving us toward 100 percent renewable energy. After doubling our solar installations, we’ll see benefits for the environment, our health and our communities for decades to come.

“Cities have been key drivers of this national trend, setting the pace with bold commitments to renewable energy and the rapid adoption of solar energy. With continued leadership from city halls and statehouses across the country, we can reach three million solar roofs even faster.”
